Design development and evaluation

To start off with, I worked through some of my favourite design ideas and tried to make them symmetrical. Unfortunately, on page one, I started to realised that changing an “organic” shape to one that was symmetrical, completely altered the design and ruined it for me.

On the design labelled “3”, I started to look at “sandwiching” units together, so they didn’t need to be flipped and be symmetrical. I liked this design to start with, however thought it would be extremely hard to find a stone in that triangular shape. I also didn’t like the look of the unit when it was joined to another for a drop earring.

Design two, which are the domes, are extremely simple but something I think could be very versatile and look very effective when joined together in different ways. They could also hold a heat sensitive stone quite easily.

I also liked design “1” and design “4” and was finding it extremely hard to go anywhere with my designs. Katy suggested making some metal samples, so this was my next step.
