In this tutorial, we had to laser along a straight line on a flat piece of steel. This allowed us to get used to holding the metal inside the laser welder and practice firing the laser beam correctly and accurately. Once we learnt this, we then had to weld two pieces of steel wire together at the ends. Finally, at the end of the session, we made Alan a little present for his office desk!
the hardest part about using the welder was getting the right body position! For example, when I made sure my elbows were tucked in so the sensors came on, I found it really hard to reach the piece of metal up to the microscope, and consequently couldn’t reach the pedal and see through the microscope properly! It was a domino effect. Overall, this made using the laser welder very uncomfortable for me.
Since using the basements laser welders, I’ve used the HND2 laser welder and I find it much easier and comfortable to use!
